"My
work is inspired by the natural world and by my spiritual relationship
with it.
My artists' books allow me to explore many themes, ranging from the
personal and social to the ecological, from dream and myth to journeys
through the landscape. The books’ small scale encapsulates for
me both the preciousness of the world we inhabit as well as the fragmentary
and partial view which we have of it. Although the illustrations may
be created in a variety of media, the books are integrated by the interplay
between words, illustrations and structure.
So a book about Silverdale may be stick-bound with a cover of silver
birch bark; a book about a woman’s relationship with her body
may be composed of torn paper fragments; and reflections on butterflies
may scroll out from a papier-mache chrysalis.
At the moment I use computer printing technology for final production,
but I am intending to start using screen-printing for some book production."
